Sights to See: Southeast United States

Top Places to Visit in the Southeast

Did you know that the Southeast United States, also known as the Deep South, hosts some of the most historic cities and landmarks in the nation? The next time your route takes you down south, make sure you swing by these beautiful landmarks!

Top Sights to See in the Southeast

Alabama

Lookout Mountain is home to many wonders in the southeast, but one of the most photogenic spaces is DeSoto Falls. This waterfall cuts through the sandstone and excellent hiking down to the beach below.
You might also want to try hiking up instead of down on Ruffner Mountain outside of Birmingham. You’ll notice red soil from the iron ore deposits in the mountain and relics from Birmingham’s mining past.

Florida

If St. Augustine is advertised as the oldest town in America, Anastasia State Park brings history to life. Stand on the beach and imagine Spanish conquistadors searching for El Dorado or pirates hiding their treasure. Rumor has it you can find pretty decent tacos there, too.
Flordia’s Everglades is another legendary, must-see sight on the southern tip of the Flordia peninsula. This marvel is the largest mangrove ecosystem this side of the Prime Meridian.

Georgia

If you find yourself changing loads in Savannah and have some time to spare, travel an hour outside the city to Tybee Island. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to play, either by surfing, windsurfing, or paddle boarding.

Louisiana

The Atchafalaya Basin covers nearly one million acres of bayous and swamp. This incredible area stretches from Simmesport to the Gulf of Mexico

Tennessee

Outside Chattanooga, there is an oasis for rock climbers of all skill levels. The cliffs of Foster Falls are made up of overhanging sandstone. With 79 routes to choose from, climbers and hikers alike will enjoy the beautiful views.
Nashville is a hub for all sorts of culture and music. However, you may be in the mood to explore a dense forest more than a dense city. Visit Percy Warner Park if you are fond of trails that will help you stretch your legs after long hours of being in the truck.
