Apex CDL Graduate Shares His Career Story
Entering the trucking industry isn’t just a career shift – it’s a chance to transform your life! For one of our own Apex graduates, earning his CDL was just that! Juliano Dominguez worked as an automotive mechanic for 15 years before seeking out ways to grow his skillset. After attending Apex’s Class A CDL program recommended by Great Jobs KC, Juliano was able to improve upon his work-life balance and expand his career horizons! He now shares his CDL testimony in hopes of inspiring others to get behind the wheel!
Exploring the Road Ahead
Juliano was originally looking to further his career in mechanics by obtaining a CDL license and learning to work on diesel trucks. However, he kept an open mind and started down a path he never expected:
“Initially I was inquiring about things I could do to further my career and take my income to the next level. So, I was open-minded going in and they (Great Jobs KC) helped me weigh my options…. The CDL program ended up being very beneficial!”
Navigating the CDL Process
Juliano’s decision to attend Apex for his CDL training was not left to chance:
“Before I went to school, I did a bit of research on jobs – there were a lot of jobs that only accepted students from Apex. They don’t usually take on inexperienced drivers, but they would if you got your certification from Apex!”
Apex is a certified 3rd party examiners site, so our students can test right on campus! In addition to this boost on his resume, Juliano enjoyed the self-paced sections of the program! For the first hour of class, students are given time to focus on areas where they may feel less confident. Our instructors offer one-on-one assistance during this allotted time, reviewing pre-trip inspection practices, more complicated driving maneuvers, and more!

Embarking on a New Career
Once Juliano obtained his CDL, he joined Werner Transportation as a long-haul driver. He spent six months on the road gaining over-the-road (OTR) experience until he secured a local job opportunity. Juliano now drives for Groove Transportation and enjoys returning home every night while still earning a great living! He is appreciative to Great Jobs KC for helping him find a local opportunity so early in his driving career:
“I would [attribute] the whole process to Great Jobs KC. [I found] a needle in a haystack opportunity for a beginner! Usually someone would have to be on the road for two years, but I was able to get on the job and do what was required.”
