Class A CDL Training That Fits Your Life
Thinking about earning your Class A CDL, but struggling to make a traditional training schedule work? You’re not alone. At Apex Technical Institute, we know that work, childcare, and everyday responsibilities don’t just disappear when it’s time to build a better future. That’s why we’re working on offering more flexible CDL training options so you can pursue a life-changing career in trucking without putting everything else on hold.
Our goal is simple: To help more people access CDL training by offering scheduling solutions that work around your needs. So, if you’ve been thinking about earning your Class A CDL but couldn’t make the traditional full-time schedule work, let’s discuss your options!
New Options, Same Trusted Quality
Since we opened in 2013, we have offered full-time, Monday-Friday training. However, we recognize that this schedule doesn’t work for everyone, and we’re ready to make adjustments. Don’t worry, a new format doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on any part of the training. One thing will never change: the quality, hands-on learning experience we’re proud to offer at Apex Technical Institute.
What You’ll Learn in Apex’s CDL Training
Our CDL training program is designed to take students from zero experience to confident, job-ready drivers. Here’s what you can expect to cover, whether you train in a traditional or flexible format. Many CDL schools require students to show up already holding their commercial learner’s permit. At Apex, we do things differently. We understand that not everyone has had access to the resources needed to prepare for the permit exam, and we want to help. That’s why we provide structured classroom time to help students study for and pass the CDL permit exam. We’re committed to helping you succeed from day one, with no prior experience required!
Once students have earned their learner’s permit, it’s time to get hands-on with the truck. You’ll begin with an introduction to:
- Pre-trip inspections: Learn how to thoroughly inspect a commercial vehicle before operation.
- Hours of service & logbooks: Understand how to track your driving hours safely and legally.
- Basic vehicle control: Get comfortable with large vehicle movement in a controlled environment.
From there, you’ll move out to the training yard for behind-the-wheel experience using our modern automatic trucks. Instructors will guide you through:
- Straight-line and offset backing
- Advanced maneuvers like parallel parking and alley docking
- Continuing pre-trip inspection drills and safe operational checks
This yard time helps students master the physical handling of large vehicles and gain confidence behind the wheel — a crucial foundation before hitting the road. Once you’ve got the basics down, it’s time for road training, where you’ll apply everything you’ve learned in real traffic environments.
With a qualified instructor in the cab, students learn how to:
- Navigate city streets and open highways
- Safely manage lane changes, wide turns, and traffic flow
- Handle diverse road conditions and real-time decision making
This final stage of training brings everything together, preparing you to test for your CDL and launch your new career with confidence.
Your CDL Journey, Your Schedule
