Driving can be dangerous, even when you’re a good driver. This is especially true when it comes to long drives. Follow these tips From Apex CDL Training Institute to stay safe on the road.

  • Don’t drink and drive. No matter how often you’ve heard this, it bears repeating. The consequences of drunk driving can be enormous. You could injure or kill yourself, or others. If you have a long drive ahead of you, don’t even take one drink.
  • Get enough sleep. Driving when you’re tired can be incredibly dangerous. Your reaction time is slowed and you’re distracted. Before setting out for a big drive, be sure to get a solid 8 hours of sleep. If you start feeling sleepy when already on the road, don’t be afraid to pull over for a nap.
  • Be very careful in inclement weather. Posted speed limits refer to how fast you are allowed to go in ideal weather conditions. When it is snowing or raining, slowing down is imperative. A light drizzle can lead to hydroplaning, which can be disastrous at any speed.
  • Stay hydrated and nourished. If you’re hungry or thirsty, your attention can wander. Be sure to pack drinks and snacks for the road. This has the added bonus of stopping you from pulling over for unhealthy food.
